Though I grew up moving around the country and have lived in six different states on the East Coast, South and Midwest, I've always called Missouri home. And although the state is sometimes overly redneck and embarrassing ("Truck Stop Missouri," anyone?), there are some Midwestern things that I just love — like the Cowboy Church at Midway Truck Stop.
The Gateway to the High Country Cowboy Church meets one a month at the Midway Expo Center. People gather in cowboy hats, boots and Wranglers and a country western band plays Christian music. It was fun watching a very unique type of Southern Baptist worship. It's quirky things like this that make me love Missouri.
I took these pictures for Vox Magazine that ran with a Q&A of the church's pastor, Dale Larison. A few of the reporting students put together a really great multimedia piece about the service, too.
**I have names for all of these people but cannot find the notebook where they were written. I will fill it in later.
