When I interviewed in Staunton, my boss, Mike Tripp, told me about a lot of traditions in the area, especially his favorite ones. He talked at length about a man named Mark Cline, who pulls an elaborate annual April Fools joke with the fiberglass sculptures he makes for a living. When I found out he was going to be at it again this year, I was super excited to see this guy in action. He's notorious for FoamHenge, a foam replica of Stonehenge, and a really interesting dinosaur park called Dinosaur Kingdom with an alternate timeline for the Civil War, where the Union soldiers attempt to train dinosaurs to fight but it goes horribly wrong.
This year, he mounted a giant ant on an abandoned water tower in the small town of Goshen. We had a good time. Also, my pictures were picked up by the Denver Post for their photo blog!
